Research Progress on the Phase Change Materials for Cold Thermal Energy Storage

Thermal energy storage based on phase change materials (PCMs) can improve the efficiency of utilization by eliminating mismatch between supply and demand. It has become a hot research topic in recent years, especially for cold thermal (CTES), such as free cooling buildings, food transportation, electronic cooling, telecommunications etc. This paper summarizes latest progress PCMs-based CTES. Firstly, classification PCMs low temperature is introduced; physical properties (e.g., (PCT) latent heat) suitable PCM candidates (−97 to 30 °C) CTES are summarized well. Secondly, techniques proposed enhance presented, including addition nanomaterials, microencapsulation shape stabilization. Finally, several representative applications 65 different systems discussed. The present review provides comprehensive summary, systematical analysis, comparison systems, which be helpful future development this field.
